Frozen bubbles

A bubble pattern frozen underneath stream ice:

One thing I’ve noticed lately is that frozen bubbles and the frosted swirls  you find in stream ice are a “day after” phenomenon. You see them happen the day after the stream freezes over with clear ice. The frosted patterns are etched on underneath, bubbles attach and freeze on.

  1. You know I’m going to like this, Tom. I’ve spent lots of time watching bubbles flow under the ice, so your observation makes perfect sense.
    Very nice, as always.
