Dutchmen’s Breeches

Another white spring flower:

Spring is in full swing now – trees flowering, April wildflowers are up (trillium species, wood poppy, bluebells, trout lily and more). Bloodroot and twinleaf are mainly past in this area. For butterflies, Spring Azure and Elfins have been flying for a week or two.

All of this is a week or two ahead of the season, based on what I’ve seen in the last few years. A mild winter and heavy rains appear to be behind this. It’s glorious, regardless of the schedule.

  1. These flowers have such interesting shapes. Despite that, I have always found it challenging thinking up a variety of compositions for them.
