Notes from the field, essays, and observations.
Frost and ice crystals are a familiar subject for me, but I’ve never noticed ice crystals on grass until this season:
A very different, airier look than crystals on leaves or stems.
This is amazing!
These are very, very cool.
Fantastic macro shot! I love it.
Thomas, what is your lens setup for getting this kind of detail in the ice crystals?
I used the Canon MP-E macro lens, which can get from 1x to 5x magnification, at around 3x. The image was blended (stacked) from several exposures at F4 to increase depth field.
So great to see the cystals’ amazing geometric shapes. Oh, how I love the world of macro!
Beautiful capture of Winters touch..
