Damselfly pair
A happy pair of Azure Bluets:
Damselflies don’t look great when you photograph them in harsh light. I had the benefit of a passing cloud to soften the light – and these didn’t fly away from me like they usually do. It’s a great time of year for looking for insects in my area – so many interesting small creatures are about.
What type camera and lense are you taking these beautiful damselfly shots with? This one is gorgeous! good work!
Thanks! I used a Canon DSLR, a 180mm macro lens with a teleconverter attached, and tripod support. The teleconverter helps take the image from a little farther away. The closer you get, the more likely you are to startle them, especially with the tripod.
Methinks flying away would be impossible for them to do in their, uh, compromising position! “Love is in the Air” is an understatement! 🙂
They sure can fly joined! No compromise to their flying abilities. They did fly after a while, and I’ve seen many others do it as well. Mating butterflies and dragonflies fly around together as well.
