Scabiosa

A pretty summer flower:

Most the scabiosa in this meadow are a pale pink, this one stood out for the intense color. I think of them as a garden flower, but these are growing wild – a garden escape, perhaps.

  1. Why is it that beautiful plants often have such horrid-sounding names….scabiosa, scab….scabby….?
PS: Excellent capture, especially of the intensity of purple, a difficult colour to photograph and process well. Liked.

    • I think the flower is a sport or odd combination of color genes – I’ve seen pale pink ones in this spot, but nothing with this rich color. I should go back and collect seeds…thanks for the kind words!
