Floral abstract

Recently I did a photography demo at an art fair. I brought in cut flowers (hybrid African daisies) as a subject, used my high magnification lens to do abstracts of petals. The flowers had bright red, yellow, and red/yellow petals in contrasting rows. Here’s one image from the bunch I took:

    • Thanks, Carole! The technique is pretty simple – get as close as you can, use a wide aperture, and shoot in soft light. You can get a this look with a macro lens with extension tubes. The hard part for me is getting the composition right, and getting the right blend of in-focus and out-of-focus elements.
