Melting snowflakes

Our first snow came while there were still bright fall leaves on the ground:

The snowfall started out as a light flurry. I knelt down and set up my high magnification lens on a tripod and looked for good snowflakes, first on mullein, then on this maple leaf. The snow was nicely crystalline, but it melted fast, making for a colorful but messy image. Then the snow started coming down harder – I paid no attention and got messy with snow as well.
