A friend picked two lily pads for me to use. The top of the pad is plain and green, the flip side of the pad, shown in these images, has the pretty vein patterns.
I enjoy what I call ‘nature’s analogies’ — patterns that repeat across not only genera and species, but even kingdoms. These are marvelous. They call to mind everything from honeycomb to the dedritic patterns of nerve endings. Beyond that, we have a water lily whose pads are green on top and red below, but I’ve never seen a closeup of the red underside. Now I have.

Thanks! This is a tropical species of water lily, though I don’t know which one. I’m exploring the contrast of in-focus and out-of-focus areas.
Really superb ! 🙂
