Spirit Falls

Spirit Falls isn’t a single waterfall, it’s a series of cascades that course through a steep slope covered with boulders. I was lucky to see it again recently when it was in good flow and decorated with ice:

If you live in Massachusetts, Spirit Falls is in Royalston, in the Trustees of Reservations property Jacob’s Hill. It’s a mile or so from the trail head to the falls.

    • Despite a pretty long exposure (2.5 seconds), I managed to capture a fair amount of swirling detail in the water – different kind of contrast than the cascade image in a recent post.

  1. Nice collection of tiers. It’s a little colder up Royalston way. Not much ice on the brooks here with a few cold days exceptions. January is supposed to be our coldest month and there’s rumors of the polar vortex returning but so far no significant ice.

    • I found the different levels and swirling water intriguing – and the ice covered up the detritus that gathers along the sides. Hope you’re right about colder weather coming. Thanks for stopping in, Steve!
