Wood poppy petals

A wood poppy abstract:

I wish they bloomed longer – they only flower for a week or so.

  1. I had to look up the wood poppy to de-abstract your image. Did you do multiple takes of this flower at various angles, or did you know from the outset how you wanted to compose your minimalist view?

    • I did a lot of takes at this angle that had different light, from soft light as in this one, to more higher contrast light, all at f/4 or f/5.6. And some looking down from above. I liked this angle best, for the all yellow look.

  2. You’ve captured just enough detail and just enough variation in color to make the image interesting. It’s odd: every time I look at it, I see more detail. It’s as though the flower is surfacing from deep within a pool of color.

  3. I know I’ve been here before Tom, but it’s been a while. This is gorgeous – I think Linda hit the nail on the head with her comment about surfacing detail….and it was interesting to read a few details about your process in the other comment.

  4. I wish they did, too. Mine were especially brief this year. Oh well. This photo is delicious~I love how my eye almost gets lost in all that beautiful yellow, and then finds the edge to follow.
