Poppy center

An abstracted view of the center of a poppy:

The flower was partially closed, the oval opening and bright center invites looks-like interpretations. The last of my backyard poppies were blooming a few weeks ago. I made only a few of the center alone.

  1. The combination of the circle and the dark red sort-of-rhomboid is great. Instead of a square peg in a round hole, you managed a round ‘peg’ in a sort-of-square hole. The colors, of course, are poppy-luscious.

As for what my warped mind saw at first glance? A giant cake of some sort — poppyseed, perhaps? — in a banquet hall or atrium, surrounded by dozens of celebrants ready to sample it.

    • Avoiding the square peg in a round hole is something I try to do – and this flower offered a solution as soon as I looked in the viewfinder. The hard part was waiting for the flower to stop swaying in the breeze, in the low light of early evening, when I needed a longish exposure (1/15 sec at ISO 1600).
