Ferns
A group of ferns I found in late afternoon light in mid-September. There were still a number of flowers, goldenrod was blooming abundantly, but the tree leaves hadn’t turned yet:

Today we had out first snowfall – three inches, though it will probably melt tomorrow.
That frontmost frond all in focus contrasts well with the other fronds that are out of focus.
Happy snow.
Since it’s melting, I probably won’t have to shovel…
I was thinking about the opportunity, even if brief, for pictures
Perhaps I’ll get out before it melts!
Go for it!
Beautiful, indeed!!
Thanks, Amy – this is an image I’ve been wanting to do for some time.
Ferns are beautiful, and harder to photograph than I’d realized when I first began trying. This is a wonderful image; I like the almost perfect contrast between the sharp frond and the ferns in the background. The lighting’s nice, too. The shadow is just visible enough to contrast the two sides of the fronds.
I love ferns, too. I’ve tried similar images before, but I found an sideways angle for this one that worked better than other attempts. This patch of ferns is completely brown now. Leaves are still colorful, but the dun colors of winter have started.
So… you’re saying that autumn’s dun?
Autumn isn’t dun, but here it’s nearly done. The dun hues are here and the fall foliage is fading. There’s a lot to like in the brown season – it’s just a different appeal. 🙂
For one thing, you can scuffle through leaves and enjoy that lovely sound.
I spent a happy hour or two this weekend doing just that…
