On the coast
A view of the rocky seacoast in southern Maine:

This was taken at dusk. I wanted a long exposure to soften the action of the waves – this was an 8 second exposure. In this spot, the waves surged through the long crevice in the rocks.

Did you also take high-speed pictures to capture the energy of the waves?
Just a few at speeds around 1/25. I did the series pretty late in the day, so short shutter speeds weren’t possible. If I go back, I’ll try higher speeds on a cloudy day.
Amazing!
Thanks, MB!
The result is amazing !
I’ve been wanting to try long exposures of the ocean for some time. This was the perfect spot, so pretty.
I’m as taken with the sharpness of the rocks as with the water. Together, they make for a perfect pairing. It looks as though there’s some spray there that was slowed, too. It’s a nice effect.
Thanks! I like the look of soft water in waterfall images, and I’ve wanted to try comparable exposures for images of the sea. As the exposures get longer, it can look surrealistic. Next time I’m in Maine, I’ll try even longer exposures, minutes in length.
