Winter asters
A cluster of asters from a winter meadow:

In the last few years I’ve learned to love how flowers look in the fruiting phase, even after the seeds have flown.

After the seeds have flown, the imagination can soar too.
If a photograph can give your imagination something to work with, I’m very happy.
The triangular shape of the seed heads, both the focused and unfocused, is perfect. It could be a representation of the flower’s season, fading into the past.
I love playing in-focus elements against out-of-focus ones to suggest space. I hadn’t thought that it could suggest time as well. Thanks!
It’s taken me a while, but I’ve come to really appreciate all the autumnal/wintry colors – russets, browns, even some of the grays – as well as the flower seed pods and their interesting shapes. Very nice photo 👍
Photographing seeds and faded flowers started out as a project of necessity, using what the season gives me. But I see the beauty of them now, it took a while.
An inspiring thought, for sure!
Thanks!
This has a very pleasing depth to it and makes a subject that most might consider unattractive attractive. Nice choices of focus and exposure, Tom.
Thanks, Steve. It’s taken me a while to see the beauty of this phase.
